Delhi Capitals coach IPL 2027 news is now official — and it reads like an all-star XI. Sourav Ganguly has taken over as head coach, Yuvraj Singh has joined as assistant and batting coach, and Chaminda Vaas has been named fast bowling coach. Unveiled across the first three weeks of October, the star-studded trio will lead the franchise into the 2027 season with one mission: ending Delhi’s long wait for a maiden IPL title. Here is the complete guide to the new-look Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027.

Delhi Capitals Coach IPL 2027: The Big Announcements

The overhaul unfolded across October: Ganguly’s appointment was confirmed on October 6, Yuvraj’s on October 13, and Vaas was unveiled on October 17 — the most high-profile coaching rebuild of any IPL franchise this off-season.

Sourav Ganguly — Delhi Capitals Head Coach for IPL 2027

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was appointed Delhi Capitals’ head coach on October 6, replacing Hemang Badani after two seasons without a playoff appearance. It is a homecoming: the 54-year-old has been part of the Capitals family since 2019, joining as an advisor before serving as Director of Cricket in 2023 and 2024.

Ganguly is no coaching novice. He made his coaching debut last year with Delhi’s sister franchise, the Pretoria Capitals in South Africa’s SA20 league, and guided them to the final earlier this year. He also served as BCCI president from 2019 to 2022.

“Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart... I am looking forward to working with the squad, the new season, and building a strong and fearless team,” Ganguly said in the franchise’s announcement.

Parth Jindal, the franchise’s chairman and co-owner, added: “Dada is and has always been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals family. I am incredibly proud and honoured to announce that one of the greatest Indian captains and administrators is now stepping into coaching.”

Ganguly inherits a side that finished sixth in IPL 2026 under captain Axar Patel — one place lower than their fifth-place finish in 2025. The task is clear: take Delhi back to the playoffs for the first time since 2021.

Yuvraj Singh Joins as Delhi Capitals Batting Coach

Yuvraj Singh joined the Delhi Capitals coaching setup on October 13 as assistant and batting coach — the first formal coaching assignment of his storied career. He reunites with Ganguly, his first India captain, this time on the same side of the dugout.

The appointment also completes a circle: Yuvraj represented the Delhi franchise in the 2015 season after they secured his services for INR 16 crore — the most expensive IPL signing at the time. Across 132 IPL matches, he scored 2,750 runs and picked up 36 wickets, and in recent years he has mentored young batting stars like Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family,” said Parth Jindal. “Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad.”

Chaminda Vaas Named Delhi Capitals Fast Bowling Coach

Former Sri Lanka great Chaminda Vaas is set for his maiden IPL coaching stint after being named Delhi Capitals’ fast bowling coach on October 17, replacing Munaf Patel, who held the role for the previous two seasons.

Vaas is among Sri Lanka’s most successful bowlers: 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets, a 1996 ODI World Cup winner, and once the holder of the best ODI bowling figures — 8 for 19 against Zimbabwe in December 2001.

He is no stranger to the IPL either. Vaas represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers across the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons, picking up 18 wickets in 13 games. His coaching résumé is extensive: three stints as Sri Lanka’s bowling coach between 2012 and 2022, a brief contract with New Zealand, a stint with Ireland at the 2016 T20 World Cup, and head-coach roles with NYS Lagos and the Kandy Royals in franchise cricket.

Here is a delightful detail for the fans: Vaas claimed his 400th ODI wicket by dismissing none other than Yuvraj Singh — the man he will now work alongside in Delhi’s dugout.

Delhi Capitals Coaching Staff IPL 2027: Full List

The revamped Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027 looks like this: Sourav Ganguly (head coach), Yuvraj Singh (assistant and batting coach), Chaminda Vaas (fast bowling coach), Amit Mishra (spin bowling coach) and John Mooney (fielding coach).

Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra, 42, will also enter IPL coaching for the first time after a successful playing career that spanned the Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants. Former Ireland all-rounder John Mooney takes charge of the fielding department.

To make room, Delhi released bowling coach Munaf Patel, team director Venugopal Rao and assistant coach Ian Bell. The shake-up coincides with an ownership-cycle change: Delhi Capitals are jointly owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group, and with GMR’s tenure ending in 2026, JSW’s Parth Jindal has taken over as chairman.

Why Delhi Capitals Overhauled the Coaching Staff

Delhi are one of only two original IPL franchises — alongside the Punjab Kings — yet to lift the trophy. They came closest in 2020, when they reached the final, and topped the table the following year, but they have not made the playoffs since 2021. A sixth-place finish in IPL 2026 made a reset inevitable.

The new coaching team’s first big test is the IPL 2027 mega auction on December 16, 2026 at the ITC Grand Goa — read our full guide to the IPL 2027 auction date and venue here. Delhi has already been active in the trade window: T Natarajan moved back to Sunrisers Hyderabad for a revised fee of Rs 5 crore (bought for Rs 10.75 crore at the 2025 auction), with spinner Zeeshan Ansari heading the other way for Rs 40 lakh.
