The NZ vs IND 4th T20I result is one New Zealand will remember for a long time: the Black Caps crushed India by 87 runs at Eden Park, Auckland, on Friday, October 30, 2026, to open their account in the five-match series. Glenn Phillips smashed 107 off just 49 balls as New Zealand posted a mammoth 259/7, their highest total in T20I cricket, before Jacob Duffy's 4/23 helped bowl India out for 172/9. India still lead the series 3-1, but the clean sweep dream is over, and the fifth and final T20I at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on Sunday, November 1, now decides whether India finish 4-1 or New Zealand close the gap to 3-2.

NZ vs IND 4th T20I Result: Full Scorecard

New Zealand won the toss battle in reverse: India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first at Eden Park, but the decision backfired spectacularly. New Zealand raced to 259/7 in their 20 overs, the highest T20I total ever scored against India by any team. In reply, India never got going in the chase and finished on 172/9, falling 87 runs short. Glenn Phillips was named Player of the Match for his breathtaking century.

New Zealand 259/7 in 20 overs: Glenn Phillips 107 off 49 balls (6 fours, 10 sixes), Michael Bracewell 65 off 25 balls; Mayank Yadav 3/48. India 172/9 in 20 overs: Tilak Varma 35, Naman Dhir 28; Jacob Duffy 4/23, Mitchell Santner 2/24. Result: New Zealand won by 87 runs at Eden Park, Auckland. Series: India lead 3-1 with one match to play. We had previewed the Eden Park clash in our NZ vs IND 4th T20I prediction, and the match turned out very differently from the first three games of the tour.

Glenn Phillips 107: Records Behind the Century

The Glenn Phillips 107 was not just a big innings, it was a record-breaking one. Phillips reached his hundred in only 46 balls, making it the joint-second-fastest T20I century ever scored against India, equalling South Africa's David Miller. His second fifty came in a scarcely believable 15 deliveries, and his 10 sixes rained all over Eden Park's famously short straight boundaries.

Phillips also became the first New Zealand batter ever to score a T20I century against India on home soil, going past Colin Munro's 109 not out in Rajkot in 2017 as the best Kiwi effort in this fixture. It was the third T20I century of his career, after his 108 off 51 against the West Indies in 2020 and his 104 off 64 against Sri Lanka at the 2022 T20 World Cup. With 276 runs in four matches at an average of 92, including a century and two fifties, Phillips has been the standout batter of this series, even in a losing cause for his team.

The team records fell too. New Zealand's 259/7 went past their previous best T20I total of 254/5 against Scotland four years ago, and it is the highest total any side has posted against India in the format. The fifth-wicket stand between Phillips and Bracewell was worth 115 runs off just 41 balls, and New Zealand went past 200 in the 16th over before Bracewell's late assault pushed them towards 260.

What Went Wrong for India at Eden Park

India's problems started with the ball. After electing to field, the bowlers could not contain New Zealand on a flat Eden Park surface with short boundaries, and the death overs went badly wrong as Phillips and Bracewell smashed 115 runs together in just over six overs. Mayank Yadav's 3/48 was the only bowling return of note, while the rest of the attack went for plenty.

The chase was worse. Chasing 260, India lost early wickets and never recovered, with Tilak Varma's 35 the top score and Naman Dhir's 28 the only other contribution of note. The 87-run margin makes it India's second-biggest defeat by runs in T20I cricket, and it ended India's 10-match unbeaten T20I run in New Zealand. It was also New Zealand's first win over India on home soil since 2019, and their first win against India at Eden Park.

Series State: India Still Lead 3-1

The series picture is simple: India won the first three matches and sealed the series in Wellington, where Abhishek Sharma's 113 off 38 balls powered a chase of 199 in just 13.2 overs. New Zealand's Auckland win has denied India the clean sweep, but the trophy is already India's. The full story of the series-sealing game is in our NZ vs IND 3rd T20I result report on Abhishek's record hundred.

NZ vs IND 5th T20I Playing 11: Hamilton Finale Preview

The fifth and final T20I is played today, Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Seddon Park, Hamilton, starting at 12:30 PM IST with the toss at 12:00 PM IST. The Hamilton weather looks kind for cricket: cloudy conditions around 16 degrees during the game with no rain interruption expected, and the par score at Seddon Park is around 200-210. Across 23 T20Is at the ground, teams batting first have won 13 times and chasing teams nine times, with first-innings scores averaging around 168, so the toss could matter more here than it did at Eden Park.

For the NZ vs IND 5th T20I playing 11, India have rotation options after the Auckland defeat. Specialist spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav are yet to play a single game in the series, and at least one of them could come into the side for the finale. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who starred with 45 off 19 in Wellington but was benched in Auckland, could also return. Ishan Kishan is back in the mix after his injury layoff, while Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma remain the core of the batting order. New Zealand are likely to stick with the winning combination built around Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Daryl Mitchell, Phillips, Bracewell, Santner and Duffy.
